Introduction

Applying the Cumulative update package 5 for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 causes K2 reports to no longer function. An error message will indicate “An attempt has been made to use a data extension 'SOURCECODE' that is not registered for this report server”.

It is not known at this time if other SQL cumulative updates would cause the same behavior.

Symptoms

  1. After you have installed Cumulative update package 5 for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 on your SQL Reporting Services server, you will receive an error message when you attempt to view a K2 report:

An error has occurred during report processing.

An attempt has been made to use a data extension 'SOURCECODE' that is not registered for this report server.
  2. After you have installed Cumulative update package 5 for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 on your SQL Reporting Services server, you will receive an error message within the SQL Reporting Services “Report Manager”.
    1. Within the SQL Reporting Services “Report Manager”, click on Data Sources
    2. Click on BLACKPEARL
    3. Next to “Connection type:” the setting of “SOURCECODE” will be listed, followed by an error message that states:

The data processing extension used for this report is not available. It has either been uninstalled, or it is not configured correctly.

Cause of the Error

The behavior is due to the fact that the SQL Cumulative Update replaced files previously updated to include SOURCECODE as a registered data processing extension.

Error Resolution

To resolve the issue, re-run the Configuration Manager on the SQL Reporting server.

  1. Launch K2 blackpearl Configuration Manager from the Program menu.
  2. K2 for Reporting Services will display as Not Configured.
  3. Continue through the configuration, and reboot the server upon completion.
  4. Restart your K2 servers (the K2 service).
  5. Verify that K2 reports now render correctly.
  6. [Optional] Verify that the Connection type now displays with no error in SQL Server Reporting Services > Home > Data Sources > BLACKPEARL.
