Updating the K2 for SharePoint App when a Newer Version is Available

Summary
When there is a new version of the K2 for SharePoint App available, you are notified of it in SharePoint. Once updated, the K2 Registration Wizard is re-run automatically so that the settings are updated. It may be necessary, after updating the app, to refresh SmartObjects, Views and Forms. This is necessary when moving from RC to RTM or later of the K2 for SharePoint App.

Details

Every time you click the K2 Application button on the SharePoint Ribbon, a check is made to see what the version is of the K2 for SharePoint App. If there is a newer version you may be prompted to upgrade the app or contact your administrator.

The dialog that may appear says:

A newer version of the K2 for SharePoint App is available. Contact your administrator to register the K2 for SharePoint App on this site. After that has been done, you can create new K2 artifacts or synchronize existing ones. See http://help.k2.com/en/KB001610.aspx for more information.


Once the app has been upgraded, you may also be prompted to refresh your SmartObjects, View and Forms to synchronize these with the current settings and version-specific information of the app. This can be accomplished by going to a list or library that is integrated with K2 and clicking on the K2 Application button in the SharePoint Ribbon. If you need to refresh your K2 artifacts you are prompted to do so.

To upgrade the K2 for SharePoint app for versions prior to K2 4.7, follow these steps:
 
  1. Browse to the root site of the site collection.
  2. Click on Settings > Site Contents
  3. Click the ellipse of the K2 for SharePoint app, then click About
  4. On this page, if there is an update available, you can update the app
  5. Keep in mind that once you update you may have to refresh your SmartObjects, Views and Forms

To upgrade the K2 for SharePoint app after K2 4.7, you must run the AppDeployment.exe tool, run the Registration Wizard on the app catalog, and then , deploy and activate the app from links on the K2 for SharePoint Settings page in the App Catalog.
