K2 blackpearl 0807 (4.8210.1.x and 4.8210.2.0) and K2 blackpoint 0902 (4.9040.1.0) are standalone products that currently cannot be upgraded or installed side by side. There are plans to provide the capability of a full upgrade from K2 blackpoint 0902 to K2 blackpearl in the next version release of K2 blackpearl. However, K2 blackpoint and K2 blackpearl cannot run side by side on the same machines and neither will this be catered for in the future.
What happens if K2 blackpoint 0902 is upgraded to K2 blackpearl 0807?
No errors are displayed during the upgrade. The K2 blackpearl 0807 installer continues the installation as the installation directory is different from that of K2 blackpoint and the component guids are different. The Configuration will continue and on the Database panel, as soon as the correct SQL server is entered, all the existing databases will display as “Wrong Type.”
If the databases are deleted or the installer points to another SQL Server the installation process will continue. On completion of the installation the entire upgraded K2 blackpoint environment will not function correctly.
Can the changes be rolled back?
It is possible to restore the environment back to its orginal state, provided the databases have not been deleted. Follow the steps below:
- Rerun the K2 blackpearl 0807 Setup Manager from either the installation directory or from Add/Remove Programs, and select to Remove all K2 components.
- Run the Repair option on the K2 blackpoint 0902 Setup Manager and restart the system.
What happens if K2 blackpearl 0807 is upgraded to K2 blackpoint 0902?
This is not possible as the K2 blackpoint 0902 installer will prevent you from installing by listing all the conflicting components that must be uninstalled on the Welcome screen or an error message will be displayed as shown below:
