When viewing some of the out of box reports a timeout exception is thrown.

Error Scenario

Note: The following error scenario is one set of circumstances under which the error is known to occurr and does not include all possible scenarios.

The error message results because when a query is run i.e. when the user drills down using the UI from Process Overview and so on, all the available data is brought to the WorkflowReporting service and only filtered then. Since the data volume can be very high this results in the timeout.  To reproduce the performance conditions, follow the steps below:

Using existing Process Instance Data, do the following:

1. Open SQL Profiler
2. Start a new trace
3. From K2 Workspace, Drill into Process Instance Overview > Process Instance Data > [Select a report]
4. Return to the SQL Profiler and locate the query that is returning the data, and the issue can be viewed

The following areas of reporting may have been affected:

• Process Instance Data
• Process Instance XML Data
• Process Instance Data Audit
• Process Instance Audit
• Activity Instance Data
• Activity Instance Slot Data
• Activity Instance SLOT XML
• Activity Instance XML Data
• Activity Instance Data Audit
• Activity Instance Audit

Performance Resolution

A feature enhancement has been implemented and applied to the above reports to resolve this issue by using a WHERE clause in the SQL query to only return the relevant data.

Error Messages

The following error message may be generated, and it is a timeout error 'SourceCode.SmartObjects.Client.SmartObjectException'

Error Resolution

This Hotfix is contained within the latest K2 blackpearl Update. Install the update package to resolve the error.
