Introduction

The K2 Process Guides are designed to help you build your first process with K2. The process guides include videos and step by step instructions to help you build your first, very simple, process and walk you through everything from creating the process to deploying and testing.

This article will describe how the process guides work, including how to view the videos online or download the videos to run locally, testing to ensure you have the appropriate media players, and how to repair your installation.

How the K2 Process Guides Work

By default, the K2 Process Guides will play the videos from our online source. This uses your internet connection to play the videos from Viddler.com, our hosting service for media.

Testing your Media Players

In order to view the online videos, you will need Adobe Flash player. You can download this at: http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer

If you have the player installed, you should be able to view the video embedded below:

In order to view the videos locally, you will need Windows Media player. You can download this at: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/default.aspx and will need the appropriate version for your operating system.

If you have the player installed, you should be able to view the video embedded below:

If you are not able to see the video above, you may need to modify your browser options. For example, for steps in Internet Explorer, please see this article: http://www.technologyquestions.com/technology/internet-explorer/136980-ie7-will-not-play-wmv-file.html#post628701

64-bit Support

The online videos use Adobe Flash player to play the videos. Currently, Adobe does not have support for 64-bit browsers. (For more information, please see http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/000/6b3af6c9.html) Therefore, open the guides in a 32-bit browser in order to play the videos. If this is not possible, download the installation package for the local videos which will play using Windows Media player.

How to install the K2 Guides Video Pack

In order to run the Process Guide Videos locally rather than have them play online, you will first need to download the video pack from the K2 Customer and Partner portal (http://portal.k2.com). Once you have downloaded and extracted the Video Pack, you will need to install the Video Pack on the various machines:

  1. K2 Studio - You will need to install the K2 Studio Video Pack component in order for process guide videos for K2 Studio to run local on the client machine. This installation package must be installed on all clients that have installed K2 Studio if you want to run the videos locally instead of online.
  2. SharePoint Web Front End (WFE) - You will need to install the K2 Designer for SharePoint Video Pack component in order for process guide videos for for the K2 Designer for SharePoint to run local on the SharePoint WFE. This installation package must be installed on all SharePoint WFEs in order to run the videos locally instead of online.
  3. Important: For the K2 Designer for SharePoint, any users who have viewed process guides online will need to clear their browser cache in order to change to local videos. For more information, please see this article: http://www.wikihow.com/Clear-Your-Browser's-Cache
Once you have extracted the Video Pack, perform the following steps to install it:
  1. Double click the setup.exe file. This will launch the installer and you will see the Welcome screen.
  2. On Welcome screen, click Next
  3. On End User License Agreement screen, read the agreement, select the "I agree" radio button, and click Next
  4. On the Select Components screen, make sure the appropriate guides are checked. You will want to install the "K2 Designer for SharePoint Video Pack" component on the SharePoint WFEs for videos to be run local from the server for the K2 Designer for SharePoint Process Guides. You will want to install the "K2 Studio Video Pack" component on any machine that has K2 Studio installed for the videos to be run local from the computer. Click Next

  5. The next screen will install the components and give you a progress bar. This may take a minute or two depending on the components selected.
  6. When the installer has completed, you will see the finished screen. You will also see a link to the log files. Click Finish to complete the wizard.

How to Repair your Installation

If you repair your K2 4.5 installation and have installed the local videos package, you will need to repair the local videos installation as well. This will ensure that the process guide videos will continue to play locally and not revert back to the default, online option.
