This article was created in response to a support issue logged with K2. The content may include typographical errors and may be revised at any time without notice. This article is not considered official documentation for K2 software and is provided "as is" with no warranties.

Issue

When trying to start the K2 HostServer, the following error is seen:

K2HostServerBinK2HostServer.exe

The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.

Symptoms

The K2 Server will not start. K2 Designer and K2 Management are failing with an error:

No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:5555

Troubleshooting Steps

This issue usually occurs because the config file used to start the K2 Server is malformed. Make sure that the HostServer.exe.config file is correct. If changes were recently made to this Config File, revert them and see if the K2 Service starts.
